The visual style of the original Blade Runner owed as much to film noir as to sci-fi, with its rain-swept nighttime cityscapes and sleazy nightclubs in the futuristic Los Angeles of… 2019.
Flying cars may not be with us just yet, but the film’s exploration of slavery and how we define humanity remains powerful and disturbing.

The upcoming sequel will undoubtedly be more spectacular in terms of effects, but also looks set to bring the same visual flair; gigantic commercials, grimy post-industrial landscapes lurking beneath high-tech skyscrapers, with barely a glimpse of sunlight.
